“I am the substitute for the plague,” cried Caligula, the mad emperor. Soon, the “plague” spread around the world amid police brutality, marches and protests. The plague perpetuates these days of darkness, this “collective passion” of a mad world. In the face of suffering as much as death, the boredom of restarting, Ahí viene la plaga illustrates the behaviors; it imposes on us the vision of a universe without future or purpose, where the drama itself ceases to seem dramatic and is impregnated with macabre humor, where people are less defined by their approach, their language and the weight of their flesh than by their silences, their secret wounds, their projected shadows and their reactions to the challenges of existence. Ahí viene la plaga will be, therefore, according to different interpretations, the “chronicle of resistance”, the book of the “doomed” and the lonely or the manual of solidarity — in any case, a modest and calculated work that Rubén Ortiz Torres hesitated sometimes to make, during a year of gestation, maturation and difficult development...

La plaga perpetúa estos días de oscuridad, esta “pasión colectiva” de un mundo loco. Frente al sufrimiento tanto como a la muerte, al aburrimiento de recomenzar, Ahí viene la plaga ilustra los comportamientos; nos impone la visión de un universo sin futuro ni finalidad, donde el drama mismo deja de parecer dramático y se impregna de humor macabro, donde las personas están menos definidas por su enfoque, su lenguaje y el peso de su carne que, por sus silencios, sus heridas secretas, sus sombras proyectadas y sus reacciones a los desafíos de la existencia. Ahí viene la plaga será, por lo tanto, según las interpretaciones, la “crónica de la resistencia”, el libro de los “condenados” y los solitarios o el manual de la solidaridad — en todo caso, un trabajo modesto y calculado que Rubén Ortiz Torres dudó a veces de realizar, durante un año de gestación, maduración y difícil desarrollo...
